Hoylake: Red Rocks.

On Sunday 20th September ten of us went to Hoylake and walked to Red Rocks where Ken and Claire Wood showed us shore and sea birds, particularly Oystercatcher and Common Tern on the Rocks

It was a glorious sunny day, attracting not only birds but the population of the Wirrel to the beach. Will you believe me when I say that colder, windier weather would have been better for watching the birds.

Afterwards we joined the crowds on the promenade at the end of King's Gap. Willem spotted a Curlew Sandpiper amongst the mass of birds on the high water shore line, but our luck ran out as maroons shot into the sky and the Lifeboat was launched.

The Landlord of the Ship in the centre of Hoylake was so sorry for us he served a free dish of, cold, sausage rolls.

Cabin Hill.

On Sunday 18th October David Johnson has kindly agreed to lead the group around Cabin Hill National Nature reserve and the nearby dunes and shore for migrants and waders. This is another outing which needs to be synchronised with high tide and the group will meet near St Lukes Church, Church Road, Formby (past Formby Station and on the way to Lifeboat Rd) at 10 am, before walking a circular route of perhaps 4 miles.

Apologies from Betty and myself: we will be on holiday.

Future Meetings

The November meeting is to be at Lifeboat Road, Formby.

John Price has offered to lead the visit to Martin Mere, but we need leaders for other future visits: any offers?
